In 2026, an eleventh team is set to join Formula 1. American automotive giant General Motors will enter the grid through its subsidiary, Cadillac. Reportedly, the new team aims to recruit at least one experienced driver. Daniel Ricciardo is frequently mentioned as a potential candidate, although Sergio Pérez – following his departure from Red Bull – is also said to be in the picture. Christian Horner wouldn’t be surprised if Cadillac contracts one of these two drivers.

Daniel Ricciardo was dismissed after the Singapore Grand Prix. He has since made it clear that he is not considering a comeback for the time being. However, he has been frequently linked to the new Cadillac team in recent months. The Australian is indeed very popular in America and also has a wealth of experience in Formula 1.

New Challenge for Pérez

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes to Cadillac,” Horner responded to the rumors about Ricciardo. “But I also wouldn’t be surprised if they opt for the experience of someone like Sergio Pérez and he continues his career there.” Although Ricciardo has seemingly put an end to his Formula 1 career, Horner believes that Pérez is still interested in a new challenge at Cadillac.

Checo needs to take some time off and spend it with his family,” explained the British team boss. “He’s been in the sport for a long time now and needs to figure out if he wants to continue in Formula 1 or perhaps look at other racing classes. Maybe sports cars are more interesting to him. He just needs to take a break now and discover how much he’s going to miss driving in Formula 1.”
