Pierre Gasly acknowledges that Alpine is having a tough season this year. With only 22 points, the French racing team is on track for its second-worst result since 2016, when the team collected eight points. Gasly admits that the car has taken a step back this year, but emphasizes that it is now crucial to keep the team’s motivation high.

“We clearly seem to have taken a step back in terms of performance,” Gasly told Motorsport Week. “For example, we’ve seen teams like Haas continue to bring upgrades, even in Austin, while we stopped developing the car months ago – but that’s okay.” Gasly acknowledges that this season is tough for everyone at Alpine, but emphasizes that the team must keep looking forward. “I’m currently a bit between two stools, as it’s an extremely difficult year for everyone in the team and we’re not competitive at all – for reasons we know and due to tactical choices we’ve made.”

For Gasly, it’s now mainly about maintaining motivation within the team. “The way I see it, the most important thing for me is to keep the motivation high for everyone in the team,” said the Frenchman. “Because no matter how frustrated I can get by not being able to score points, they are just as disappointed. Everyone here puts their heart and soul into it – works long hours, travels the world – to give us the chance to race with the best possible material.”

The Bigger Picture

Gasly emphasizes that he always keeps the bigger picture in mind. “We are about 1,500 people, both on the track and in the factory, and especially knowing that we are working on something much bigger for 2026. That doesn’t take anything away from my commitment in the car, I always do my best. Do I enjoy it as much? No. But I’m also aware of the project I’m working on and what’s coming in the next few years. I don’t lose sight of the bigger picture. That’s why it’s important for me to be the driving factor for the motivation of each individual within the team.”
