Max Verstappen’s fan base is not limited to the Netherlands, where he is widely recognized as one of the world’s top Formula 1 drivers. His influence extends to other top athletes, including 26-year-old world champion and Arsenal defender Jurriën Timber, who sees Verstappen as a ‘true winner’ and a role model.

Timber’s Journey in the Premier League

Jurriën Timber has been playing for Arsenal in the British Premier League since last year, following a four-year stint with Ajax. His debut season in England was marred by an ACL injury, limiting his appearances to just two games. This unfortunate circumstance led him to spend most of his time on the bench.

Timber’s Admiration for Verstappen

During his downtime, Timber found ample opportunity to delve into Formula 1. He is a big fan of champion Max Verstappen, whom he describes as a ‘true winner’. When asked by a journalist from The Mirror about his sources of inspiration during his recovery period, Timber mentioned former basketball player Kobe Bryant and Dutch Formula 1 driver Verstappen.

“I particularly enjoy watching winners,” the 23-year-old Timber explained. “Especially in the NBA, but also someone like Max Verstappen. I sometimes see post-race interviews and think, ‘wow, this guy is a true winner’. I always enjoy hearing his commentary after a Grand Prix.”
