Charles Leclerc swapped his racing suit for a pilot’s uniform. The Monegasque took to the skies last October, spending three hours co-piloting a French Air Force jet. In the latest video on his personal YouTube channel, Leclerc shares his experience. “I’m going to take off like crazy,” the Ferrari driver announces right away.

With 24 races on the current Formula 1 calendar, drivers don’t have much free time during the busy season. However, Leclerc found a gap in his schedule to fly with the French Air Force, taking a seat in the Rafale fighter jet. The latest video on Leclerc’s YouTube channel shows the Monegasque undergoing medical tests, being fitted for a flight suit, and even taking a turn in a simulator before he’s allowed to take to the skies.

Flying over Monaco

“Are there any buttons I shouldn’t press?” Leclerc asks as he finally gets to take off. “The eject button,” comes the reply from the pilot accompanying the Monegasque. During his flight through the clouds, Leclerc experiences how fighter jets refuel in mid-air and even flies over his homeland, Monaco. “Incredible, this is my home,” exclaims the Ferrari driver.”This unique opportunity pushed my physical limits and allowed me to experience the extreme sensations of a fighter pilot,” Charles Leclerc reflects on his experience. “I want to express my immense gratitude to Canal+ and l’Armée de l’Air for making this possible. I feel so fortunate as a Formula 1 driver to have these kinds of opportunities.” The Monegasque driver candidly admits that the G-forces did make him feel nauseous, but he wouldn’t have missed this opportunity for the world.
