Since his departure from Formula 1, Australian racer Daniel Ricciardo has already been offered his first job. Shane Howard, CEO of the V8 Supercar Championship, a touring car racing class in Australia, welcomes Ricciardo with open arms into Australian V8 motorsport.
Ricciardo drove his very last Grand Prix in Formula 1 for Visa RB in Singapore. The Australian will be replaced by New Zealand reserve driver Liam Lawson from Austin onwards. Ricciardo is therefore in search of a new job, and has previously expressed interest in the V8 championship.
“Of course, it’s the V8 cars that race there, but there’s also the 12-hour and so on, so maybe I can participate in that,” Ricciardo told Motorsport.com. “If a V8 team were to say, ‘hey, do you want to do a few laps around Bathurst, no pressure, just to experience it’, I would definitely do that.” The Bathurst 1000 is a thousand-kilometer long endurance race held in the Australian town of Bathurst.
‘Would be really cool’
It seems that Ricciardo won’t have to wait long for this opportunity, as V8 Supercars CEO Shane Howard has already expressed great enthusiasm for the idea. “Would we want to see Ricciardo in a Supercar? One hundred percent,” says Howard, to News Corp. “Imagine if he could race in one of our cars in a new street race in Perth. That would be something special, right? It would be huge.”
“He’s such an incredible driver and has such an incredible personality and people just absolutely love him,” Howard continues his praise for Ricciardo. “Imagine if he were to race at Bathurst. That would be really cool. At an appropriate time, we will contact Daniel and his management.”
