Franz Tost, former team boss of Toro Rosso and AlphaTauri, believes that Mick Schumacher deserves the remaining spot in Formula 1 with Sauber, now Audi, in 2025 and beyond. Tost is a known admirer of the German driver.
Speaking with Sky, Tost highlighted Schumacher’s past achievements. “He has performed well. He won the championship in Formula 3 and Formula 2. Mick has won many races. He has the potential to be successful in Formula 1, but he needs the opportunity to prove it.”
At 25, Schumacher has already had a taste of Formula 1 with the Haas team. However, his two seasons were marked by numerous accidents. He is currently a reserve driver for Mercedes and also competes in endurance racing for Alpine. If Tost had his way, the son of Michael Schumacher would have joined AlphaTauri in 2023 as Pierre Gasly’s successor. However, Dr. Helmut Marko intervened and chose Nyck de Vries instead.
Preference
Despite Tost’s endorsement, Audi does not seem keen on Schumacher’s return to Formula 1. He also missed out on a spot with Alpine for 2025, when Jack Doohan was preferred. And at Williams, they chose junior driver Franco Colapinto to replace the dismissed Logan Sargeant.
