Franco Colapinto’s crash during Q2 briefly interrupted the qualifying session in Las Vegas. The young Argentine hit the barriers in turn sixteen of the street circuit, subsequently wrecking his entire Williams car. The question now is not only whether Williams can repair the car in time, but also whether Colapinto himself will be allowed to get back behind the wheel.

Franco Colapinto hit the wall during the qualification with an impact of 50G. As a result, the Argentine must first undergo a medical examination before it is decided whether he can get behind the wheel at all this weekend. “Such a large impact is, of course, significant and severe, and he will also have to be examined again tomorrow before we know if he can race,” Williams also says in an official statement. “Franco’s health is the most important thing and we are glad that he is otherwise okay. We will report more as soon as we can.”

Series of Crashes

In addition to Colapinto’s health, the Argentine’s participation in the Las Vegas race also depends on whether Williams can repair his car. The small racing team does not have many spare parts left. Colapinto also damaged his FW46 during the qualifying session in São Paulo.

Teammate Alexander Albon also crashed in the same Brazilian session. The British Thai was therefore unable to participate in the race. It now appears that Colapinto in Las Vegas is facing the same fate as his teammate. If Williams manages to repair the car, the Argentine will likely start from the pit lane.
