How long will Franco Colapinto be working for Alpine? The official press release only mentioned a ‘multi-year contract’ with the French racing team. Colapinto’s manager María Caterineu now reveals the exact duration of the collaboration and how the negotiations with Alpine advisor Flavio Briatore went.
Alpine announced in early January that Franco Colapinto would be joining the French team. The Argentine will serve as a test and reserve driver, thereby significantly increasing the pressure on rookie Jack Doohan. If the Australian debutant falls short, Alpine can reportedly place Colapinto next to Pierre Gasly in the Alpine seat. Rumor has it that Doohan has a hefty performance clause in his contract.
Five Years
Colapinto’s manager, María Catarineu, reveals a few details from her client’s contract. Notably, the manager discloses the duration of the contract. Williams, where Colapinto was previously under contract, has “given the Argentine to Alpine for five years.”
The deal between the two racing teams was reached after long, ‘complex’ negotiations. “But Flavio (Briatore) was always very persistent and the last few weeks he was very intense,” Catarineu tells the Argentine Infobae. “The day we first spoke, he said: ‘I have seen the talent and I want him. He followed all the races closely and how he developed as an F1 driver in the nine Grands Prix he was able to drive.”
