Not only was the race weekend at Spa-Francorchamps a sprint weekend for Formula 1, but Formula 2 also had a shortened race on Saturday. Leonardo Fornaroli emerged victorious from this chaotic session. For Richard Verschoor, the sprint ended in the first lap. The Dutchman spun out on Eau Rouge and was unable to finish his race.

The Formula 2 sprint race ended for Richard Verschoor right in the opening lap. The Dutchman sustained damage to his car in the first few meters after the start, as he tried to navigate the first corner with three other drivers. Verschoor then spun out on Eau Rouge, prematurely ending his shortened race in the first lap.

After the subsequent safety car period, the sprint race in the feeder series resumed, with Leonardo Fornaroli in the lead. Another safety car, following a collision between Victor Martins and local hero Amaury Cordeel, led to an exciting final phase of the race, in which Fornaroli, on old tires, held his ground. The sprint saw a third safety car when Sami Meguetounif unexpectedly came to a halt, and the race was not resumed afterwards. Fornaroli’s joy was no less evident, as could be heard over the radio after the sprint.

Verschoor still remains in the lead in the championship of the feeder series.
