Last year, all Formula 1 teams strictly adhered to the spending rules, as announced by the FIA. Since 2021, a strict budget cap has been in place, limiting the amount each team can spend during the Formula 1 season. Engine suppliers Honda and Alpine are currently under investigation for procedural violations.

“All ten Formula 1 teams adhered to the budget cap in 2023,” reads an official press release from the FIA. The Cost Cap Administration (CCA) has reviewed the financial records of the various teams over the past five months. The organization concluded on Wednesday that everyone has operated within the rules.

Red Bull’s Budget Cap Compliance

The FIA strictly monitors the budget cap to ensure fair progress of the Formula 1 season. In 2021, Red Bull was found guilty of violating the rules. The team had overspent and consequently received a fine of six million British pounds and ten percent less time in the wind tunnel.

For the 2023 season, the FIA also introduced a financial regulation for engine suppliers. All manufacturers supplying engines for the 2026 season are subject to strict regulations. According to the FIA, Honda and Alpine committed some ‘procedural violations’ last year, but the budget cap was not exceeded. Further investigation will determine if there will be any consequences.
