Following earlier comments from Sergio Pérez and Franco Colapinto about the smell of marijuana in Las Vegas, Max Verstappen has now also spoken out. The Dutchman confirmed after qualifying that he too can smell the scent inside his helmet.

It may be hard to imagine that the drivers can detect the smell while driving. However, the scent of marijuana is clearly present everywhere. Even as a casual passerby on the street, it’s impossible to avoid, both during the day and at night. This is due to the fact that marijuana is legal in Nevada. In this state, just like in the Netherlands, it’s legal to smoke a joint on the street. Both locals and tourists frequently do so.

“I could smell it quite well today, yes. It’s extreme,” Verstappen said about the marijuana scent. In doing so, he joined his teammate Pérez, who had already made some comments about it on Thursday after the first two free practice sessions. Williams driver Colapinto also said he could smell the marijuana. Verstappen, jokingly added, “I was pretty high, haha.
