Former Formula 1 driver, Nyck de Vries, is not taking it easy this year. In addition to Formula E and the WEC, the 29-year-old driver is also making his debut in the Super Formula this season. He will participate in three races in this prestigious Japanese racing class.
The Super Formula is highly regarded and is the fastest racing class below Formula 1. De Vries will compete in three races for Team Impul, taking action both at Motegi and Fuji (double-header). However, he will have to miss the final series at the Suzuka circuit due to the Formula E test days in Valencia.
Interestingly, De Vries is the fourth driver to take this seat at Team Impul this season. Formula 2 champion Theo Pourchaire kicked things off, but decided to switch to IndyCar after just one race. Then, Ben Barnicoat, the reigning champion of the GTD class in the IMSA, took over the car with start number 19. Given his full racing schedule in other racing classes, Hibiki Taira from the Super Formula Lights was the next to make his appearance for the team. Taira will hand over his spot to De Vries for three races, before returning to drive the final race in Suzuka himself.
