Analyst and former Formula 1 driver, Giedo van der Garde, has had enough of Sergio Pérez. The Mexican has been in a significant slump for some time, especially compared to his teammate Max Verstappen. After another blunder in the first qualifying session for the Hungarian Grand Prix, Van der Garde is adamant: “Pérez deserves a swap with Liam Lawson.”

Sergio Pérez’s Qualification Ends Due to a Mistake

A clumsy mistake ended Sergio Pérez’s qualification on Saturday. The necessary rain plagued the Hungaroring, causing Checo to be on the slippery kerbstones at the wrong time – end of practice for the Red Bull driver. According to Van der Garde, the team can no longer make excuses for Pérez. “He simply deserves a swap with Liam Lawson,” said the analyst in the Viaplay broadcast. “What he does again is so stupid. With this weather, you just have to stay off the kerbstones, everyone knows that.”

Van der Garde’s Analysis of Pérez’s Performance

“The confidence is not there after the recent period, but then just ensure a stable round,” Van der Garde continued his story. “He still had more than six minutes left. All he had to do was finish in the top-15, nothing more. This is hopeless.” Whether Lawson can actually take a seat in the RB20 is still a question. This summer, Red Bull wants to make a decision about the future line-up. In addition to Lawson, Visa RB drivers Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo also have a chance of promotion.

Recalling Pérez’s Previous Mistakes

“In Silverstone, Pérez was already in the gravel in Q1,” Van der Garde recalled. “There he also ruined it for himself. You can also see how he gets out of the car, he is just ashamed.”
