In the shadow of Formula 1 and Max Verstappen, the Netherlands boasts numerous other talented car racers: Flynt Schuring (19) is one of them. He is this season’s rookie champion in the Porsche Supercup, and he narrowly missed winning the overall title. We spoke with this racing talent about his career, future, and his brother Morris Schuring.

Mention the name Schuring, and you’re talking about racing talent. His older brother Morris has already made a name for himself in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and is competing in the DTM this season. But Flynt Schuring is no slouch either: he has had a string of successes this season in the Porsche Supercup.

Brothers trying to outdo each other is a timeless phenomenon in the sports world. But the advantage for Flynt Schuring is that his brother Morris competes in different classes in motorsport than he does. So there’s no competition, just mutual support. “We try to make each other better,” says the talented Porsche driver. “Our bond is very strong.”

They often raced against each other in karting. “And Morris was just a bit faster,” admits the younger Schuring. “There was always a healthy rivalry.” Nowadays, however, they are each other’s biggest fans and pillars of support. “We recently moved in together. Not at home, but on our own.”

Flynt Schuring’s Racing Career

It comes as no surprise that the conversations at the table are mostly about racing. If not, they still have these discussions, either at or on the way to the circuit. This is because Flynt is not only active in the Porsche Supercup but also in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany. “So, I also drive in the pre-program of a DTM race of Morris. This works out well, as we can go to the races together and support each other,” he says.

In August, he celebrated his nineteenth birthday, so he is still very young. But as the saying goes, good things come quickly: Flynt won the rookie championship in the same Porsche Carrera Cup Germany last year. “And in terms of level, it is comparable to the Porsche Supercup. So, the rookie title was also the goal this season. But I also focused on the overall championship,” he adds.

He came close to the final victory, but it eventually went to the Frenchman Alessandro Ghiretti. Behind compatriot Robert de Haan, another Dutch talent, Schuring finished third in the championship. Nevertheless, he did win the rookie title. And all the success of this season? “It makes me want more,” he concludes.
