The FIA announced on Wednesday that several email addresses have been hacked. The hackers gained access to the organization’s personal data. Employees appear to have fallen victim to a phishing attack, compromising FIA’s data.
In a statement on their website, the FIA admitted that the organization was recently hacked. “Recent incidents resulting from phishing attacks have led to unauthorized access to personal data in two FIA email accounts,” the message reads. “The FIA has taken all necessary measures to rectify the problems.” The hackers no longer have access to the accounts and the French authorities have been informed.
Enhanced Security Measures
To prevent a new attack, the organization has tightened security. “We take our data protection obligations very seriously and continually review our systems to ensure they are robust, given the evolving cybercrime,” says the FIA. “The FIA has taken additional security measures to prevent being hacked in the future.”
Previous Incidents
This is yet another incident this Formula 1 season where anonymous sources play a role. During the scandal involving Christian Horner, an email was circulated with alleged evidence from the official investigation. Mercedes also recently received a threatening message accusing the team of sabotaging Lewis Hamilton.
