The FIA confirms that all teams have adhered to the budget cap for the 2024 season. After days of speculation about which racing stables might have exceeded the budget cap, the governing body reveals on Tuesday that no team has done so. Only Aston Martin committed a minor procedural violation. The FIA is already in discussion with the British team about a solution.

The rumor mill was in overdrive this week in Formula 1. The Italian branch of Sky Sports reported on Monday that both McLaren and Lewis Hamilton‘s team, Mercedes, would have exceeded the budget cap for 2024. However, this was not the case, the FIA confirmed on Tuesday. After an extensive review of all the information provided by the teams, the governing body concludes that all ten teams adhered to the budget cap in 2024.

Only Aston Martin committed a minor procedural error, ’caused by unpredictable circumstances beyond the control of the F1 team’, as stated in the official press release. On September 29, the FIA and Aston Martin jointly started the process to resolve the issue. All five engine manufacturers – Alpine, Audi, Ferrari, Honda, and Mercedes – also adhered to the budget cap in 2024.

The budget cap was introduced by the FIA for the first time in the 2021 season in order to create a more level playing field for the different teams. The governing body also hopes to facilitate ‘more exciting races’ as a result.
