Ferrari has already taken into account a significant concern of Lewis Hamilton in their new car design. This was not a difficult task, as it has long been clear what one of the main issues for the British driver was during his time at Mercedes.
Hamilton has nothing but praise for his time at his now former employer. However, the seating position has been a contentious issue over the years. Sometimes because the seven-time world champion simply did not sit comfortably in the Mercedes cockpit, at other times because he suffered back pain due to the car’s handling. And if it wasn’t that, it was the poor visibility due to a seating position that was further forward or less forward than desired.
According to Italian media, Ferrari has immediately taken this seating position into account for the 2025 car. It helps that it was almost a year ago that it became clear that Lewis Hamilton would be making the switch to the team. The designers were therefore able to anticipate the Brit’s wishes in this regard.
The cockpit of the 2025 car has been placed further back than in the 2024 Ferrari. This is good news for Hamilton, but also in terms of the performance of the car. At least, that’s what Ferrari suspects. With this step and thus a different wheelbase (distance between front and rear wheels), the Italians hope for a better weight distribution. This also offers more possibilities for better tire management.
Team boss Fred Vasseur recently revealed that the Ferrari car has undergone significant changes in preparation for the new season. Fans and media will get a first impression in mid-February when the new car is unveiled. The first good news about the so-called Project 677 was already there: the car has passed the mandatory FIA crash tests. Whether this also applies to Hamilton’s concern? Only time will tell.
