Max Verstappen won’t be the only Verstappen on the track during the race weekend in Austria. His father, Jos Verstappen, will also be behind the wheel of a Red Bull car in the lead-up to the Grand Prix. During the so-called Legends Parade, the former Formula 1 driver will take on the RB8, a past championship car from his son’s team.
The Legends Parade at the Red Bull Ring is designed to whip up excitement among the spectators before the official Grand Prix takes place. Former drivers take a few laps around the circuit in some of the most iconic cars from the past. Last year, Jos Verstappen also participated, taking the wheel of an old Can-Am car from McLaren.
This year, the Legends Parade will feature vintage Formula 1 cars that have won a Grand Prix or championship. Jos Verstappen will be driving the RB8, the car that Sebastian Vettel used to clinch his third title in 2012 with Red Bull. In addition to Verstappen, the following drivers will also be appearing in Austria:
- Emerson Fittipaldi in the Lotus 72
- Johnny Herbert in the Lotus 82
- David Coulthard in the Red Bull RB1
- Gerhard Berger in the Ferrari F2002
