The F1 fanbase is growing larger and larger. This is evident from impressive figures released by Formula One Management (FOM). The sport’s popularity is increasing worldwide, with the number of fans now reaching 827 million according to FOM. This is an increase of over 10 percent compared to last year.
Rising Popularity in the US
The sport has been on a strong upward trend in the United States for years. According to FOM’s own research, the number of F1 fans in the US now stands at 52 million, an increase of 11 percent compared to a year earlier. This increase fits into the broader picture of the sport’s global appeal.
Younger Audience and More Women
Interestingly, the F1 fanbase is becoming increasingly younger. Currently, 43 percent of fans are under the age of 35. The proportion of female Formula 1 fans is also increasing: 42 percent of the current F1 fanbase is female. This indicates a more successful engagement with a broader audience than in the past, a trend that has been ongoing for years.
Growth on Social Media
Since 2018, the F1 fanbase on social media has also grown, according to FOM. It has risen from 18 million to 106 million followers across all platforms in total. Liberty Media, the owner of Formula 1, has made social media a focal point since taking over the sport. This strategy is paying off year after year, it seems.
In addition, FOM also predicts that TV viewing figures will continue to show positive developments in 2025, further expanding the sport’s global reach.
