Esteban Ocon delivered valuable points to Haas with a seventh-place finish in the Monaco Grand Prix. The Frenchman is pleased with his ‘flawless’ weekend and hopes to continue this trend after a series of inconsistent weeks.
With a seventh-place finish in the Monaco Grand Prix, Esteban Ocon brought his points total to 20, good for ninth place in the drivers’ championship. The Haas driver previously finished fifth in China and eighth in Bahrain. After a series of inconsistent weekends, including a retirement due to engine problems in the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, Ocon and Haas put on a strong showing in the principality. In qualifying, the Frenchman placed his car in P8. “We made a lot of progress towards qualifying, which is super positive. We need to see how we can continue this trend and extract more consistency from the other weekends,” Ocon said determinedly after the race.
Outstanding Weekend
Although each team approached the new rule of two mandatory pit stops in their own way, the strategy on Ocon’s side ensured that he could capitalize on his strong starting position. He made his stops in laps 16 and 28, maintained his position, and even moved up a spot thanks to Fernando Alonso‘s retirement. Ocon: “I think all in all it’s been a great weekend. We really didn’t do anything wrong, from qualifying to the race. We brought everything together at the right time, I’m very happy with that. Six points for the team is a big achievement, so I’m very satisfied with this.”
