The wait is nearly over for fans of Drive to Survive. Netflix revealed on Wednesday the release date for season eight of the popular documentary series. For the eighth year running Netflix’s cameras filmed behind the scenes at Formula 1; the spectacular 2025 season was followed closely by the American streamer. On 27 February, a few days before the season opener in Melbourne, the new series premieres.
According to F1, season eight of Drive to Survive once again takes viewers behind the scenes of the past Formula 1 season. The series will also offer a look at the title battle involving McLaren’s two drivers and Max Verstappen. Reportedly Lando Norris’s first championship and his intra-team rivalry with teammate Oscar Piastri will be covered in detail. Expect all the off-track drama that made Drive to Survive so popular worldwide.
Particularly in the US market the documentary has played a significant role in Formula 1’s growing popularity. Netflix viewers got their first close-up of the pinnacle of motorsport thanks to intimate, personal footage of the drivers and the teams. In recent years, however, Drive to Survive has also faced heavy criticism. Purists of the sport have seen the series as dramatized entertainment, with events and rivalries staged for effect.
