Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali wants to see the return of a ‘strong Ferrari’ as soon as possible. The Italian was himself previously team principal of the Scuderia, and after a disappointing 2025 season — in which Ferrari failed to take a single Grand Prix win — he does have advice for his former employers: “It’s especially important now not to wither away.”
Stefano Domenicali served as Ferrari’s team principal from 2008 to 2014, shortly after Kimi Räikkönen secured the Scuderia’s most recent world title in 2007. The Italian outfit has been chasing another championship ever since, and a year ago even pinned hopes on the arrival of seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton. The Brit’s first season in Ferrari red, however, fell short of expectations and Ferrari ultimately finished fourth in the constructors’ championship.
While Domenicali remains optimistic, he does offer some pointed advice to his old garage. “I’m a positive person. There’s no reason to cry, there’s no reason to be constantly negative. But they do need a plan,” the Italian told Sky Sports News. “I’m sure Fred Vasseur, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have a plan, and that’s what matters. Above all, it’s important now not to wither away.”
Strong Ferrari
Formula 1 stands on the threshold of the 2026 season, when sweeping regulatory changes come into effect. While it remains a big question mark for every team which outfit has done its homework best, Domenicali hopes for one thing most of all for his beloved Ferrari. “We want a strong Ferrari. They deserve to be in a stronger position,” the Formula 1 CEO said. “They must make sure the right energy is present in the team and that they do the right things, because in 2026 nobody yet knows where they will stand.”
