Will we ever see Daniel Ricciardo in the Formula 1 paddock again? Although a return as a driver on the grid seems unlikely, the Australian could potentially take on a different PR role within the Red Bull team. Advisor Helmut Marko reveals that Red Bull is certainly interested in a new collaboration with Ricciardo.
It was announced on Thursday that Ricciardo will not be returning as a driver for Red Bull’s sister team, Visa RB, in Austin. The Australian will be replaced by reserve driver Liam Lawson, and is not expected to return as a driver in Formula 1. However, fans of Ricciardo may not have to miss him entirely.
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko reveals that Red Bull would like to find a different role for the Australian. “We had a conversation and it’s clear that we’re interested,” Marko tells Motorsport Total. “He’s one of the most popular Formula 1 drivers, especially in the United States.”
Time Needed
Ricciardo will not immediately be seen in the paddock in Austin again, as the driver needs some time to think about his future. “He wants time to think about his entire future. I don’t think he will participate in another racing category,” says Marko.
The Austrian also has his own doubts about whether the man from Perth is interested in a Red Bull return. “If he’s no longer actively racing, does he still want these PR activities?” Marko wonders. “Ricciardo also has a lot of money in his bank account and I would say it’s a life decision for him on how he wants to shape his future life.”
