Daniel Ricciardo remains confident that he will still be part of the Formula 1 grid in 2025. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko previously confirmed that reserve driver Liam Lawson will secure a spot in a Red Bull car next season, casting uncertainty over the Australian’s future. Ricciardo has now responded to Marko’s statements.
Marko had earlier promised Liam Lawson a seat in a Red Bull car in 2025. Whether that will be as a replacement for Sergio Pérez or Daniel Ricciardo, the Austrian is yet to decide. Regardless, Ricciardo is not overly concerned about Marko’s comments at this stage.
Performance is My Best Friend, Says Ricciardo
“I still know that performance is my best friend,” the Australian responded to Marko’s comment, speaking to the press in Zandvoort. “If I do what I know I can do and what I am capable of, then I think it puts me in a very good position to stay somewhere in the Red Bull family next year.”
Ricciardo has not been able to consistently impress this season, the Australian only scored points in three main races, but the man from Perth remains confident that he will still be in Formula 1 next year. “What that means for me is probably a bit unknown, as I said, but if I perform, then I’m sure they’ll find a place for me somewhere,” said the Australian.
Ricciardo Praises Lawson
Despite Lawson being a potential threat to his own place in Formula 1, Ricciardo understands why Red Bull wants to give the New Zealander a chance. “Speaking of Liam, I saw him drive the car last year and I think he did a great job,” Ricciardo praises the driver. “I think he deserves a starting spot. In a way, I’m happy for him. If he is assured of a seat next year, then I think that’s good, because he is a deserving driver.”
