Former world champion Damon Hill has expressed doubts about the Formula 1 future of Lewis Hamilton. The 40-year-old Brit made his debut with Ferrari this season, but real successes have so far been lacking. During the past race weekend in Hungary, Hamilton reached a new low point — according to him, the Scuderia should look for another driver. Hill wonders if the seven-time world champion should start thinking about retirement.

Hamilton was already eliminated in Q2 in Hungary, while teammate Charles Leclerc secured pole position for Ferrari. In the race, he had a lackluster performance, in which he failed to gain or lose any positions. As a result, the celebrated Brit finished outside the points. Afterwards, he again took responsibility, although he also pointed to problems behind the scenes at Ferrari.

Damon Hill responded to the Grand Prix with a post on his X-account, in which he also reflected on Hamilton’s apparent decline. According to the former world champion, it was ‘sad’ to see the Ferrari driver so downcast. “It’s hard to judge when it’s time to stop,” Hill explained. “Maybe he has another year? It will only get harder in any case. Or does he just need a good holiday?”
