Franco Colapinto has been given a chance to prove himself with a contract for five races, potentially at the expense of Jack Doohan. However, for the upcoming season, Alpine is still considering all options. Rumour has it that the team’s new boss, Flavio Briatore, has been in talks with Sergio Pérez. However, he will need to act quickly, as the Mexican driver is attracting a lot of interest for a return to Formula 1.

According to a report by The Race, Sergio Pérez has been in discussions with Alpine. The team’s new boss, Flavio Briatore, views the Mexican as a serious candidate to drive alongside Pierre Gasly next season. This could potentially sideline Franco Colapinto, who is set to take over Jack Doohan’s seat for at least five races, for the second time in his fledgling career.

However, Briatore will need to act quickly if he wants to bring Pérez to Enstone. The 35-year-old driver, who was sidelined by Red Bull at the end of the season, is also strongly linked with Cadillac. The American team will join the grid as the eleventh racing stable next year and is busy assembling a driver duo.

‘Everything in its own time’

Pérez will not come out of retirement for a project that does not interest him. “At this moment, I find myself in an incredible, dreamy position, which I didn’t even know I was in,” he said during an appearance at the Leon State Fair. “I am very happy with my life and excited about what the future holds. Of course, if a good and interesting project comes my way, I will consider it. But everything will come in its own time.”

The coming months for Pérez will be a time of relaxation and reflection. “For now, my priority is to have fun in the coming months, do things I had to put aside before, travel, and spend time with my family. Over the next six months, I will decide what I want to do as the next step in my career.”
