Williams team principal James Vowles is proud of Franco Colapinto as the Argentine has extended his contract with Alpine. The former Williams junior moved to the French team in 2025 and was given the opportunity to prove himself as a replacement for Jack Doohan. After an inconsistent season, Colapinto has now secured his seat for next year.
James Vowles is full of praise for former Williams driver Franco Colapinto. The Argentine has extended his contract with Alpine for another year, meaning he will also drive for the team in 2026. The Alpine driver raced nine races for Williams under the leadership of Vowles in 2024, scoring points twice, which impressed and gave him the opportunity to work as a reserve driver for the French team. “I think he really earned that seat for next year, and I was incredibly proud of him when that was announced,” said the Williams team boss.
Vowles also emphasized the enormous popularity of Colapinto and the impact it has on the sport. “He has such a large fan base. On the way to the São Paulo Grand Prix – and I’m not exaggerating – it took half an hour to get to the circuit because there were about 50,000 incredibly fanatical Argentines standing there. I think that’s fantastic to see. The sport is healthier than ever at the moment, and Franco contributes to that with his large fan base. He earned this seat through his performances, but also through what he brings to the sport. He has a great future ahead of him – it’s up to him to prove that year after year.”
