In 2025, Carlos Sainz will make a transfer to Williams. After four years with Ferrari, the Spaniard was sacrificed in favor of Lewis Hamilton. Initially, Sainz was considered one of the most sought-after drivers on the grid, but top teams like Red Bull and Mercedes decided not to contract him. In retrospect, Sainz admits it was painful that he could not arouse their interest.

“I have definitely come to terms with it,” Carlos Sainz told Sky Sports. “I am truly convinced that it was always meant to be this way. Of course, it hurt at the time that the teams were not lining up for me. As a driver, that’s not very good for your ego. Besides, I still don’t understand why certain teams didn’t offer me a contract.” Just a few weeks after it was announced that Sainz was looking for a new team, he won the Australian GP. At that time, nothing seemed to stand in the way of a brilliant transfer.

‘Challenge at Williams Excites Me’

Yet, there was silence from Sainz’s camp. It was not until the summer break that there was finally a sign – Williams had secured the Spanish veteran for several years. Although Williams is not a top team, Carlos Sainz sees the transfer as a great challenge. “It actually excites me,” he said about what awaits him. “Williams has supported me from the beginning. I want to give back what they have given me. I can’t wait to build something beautiful.”

Sainz claimed his second victory of the year in Mexico City, and the fourth victory of his career. An impressive record, but it seems unlikely that he will celebrate many more victories in the near future. Williams has not progressed beyond seventh place in the constructors’ championship in the last five seasons. The team’s last victory dates back to 2012. To prepare Carlos Sainz for his transfer, he will participate in the post-season test in Abu Dhabi for the British team.
