Cadillac is set to join Formula 1 in 2026. The eleventh team presents itself as a fully American racing stable, but has large establishments in Great Britain – the cradle of F1 technology. However, McLaren CEO Zak Brown is not afraid of competition – on the contrary, he welcomes Cadillac and believes that the new team will financially strengthen the sport and add extra value to Formula 1.

During the Grand Prix weekend in Hungary, Brown spoke positively about the arrival of Cadillac, which is already busy preparing for its debut season in 2026. “In terms of employees, I think they will poach more talent than they will produce,” the American joked to the media present. “But that’s fine. If someone chooses to work for a rival team, then as a team boss I should ask myself what I can do better.”

Positive Impact

The new team has established its European base in Silverstone, a short distance from various other Formula 1 factories. This places it right in the heart of the sport. Despite previous concerns from teams about a possible decrease in their income share, Brown is not worried about competition. On the contrary, he sees opportunities. “In terms of sponsors, I think Cadillac will attract more new parties than it will take away,” Brown stated. He expects the team – and parent company General Motors – to invest heavily in the sport. “Will we get a better American TV deal, more American involvement? I think so,” said Brown. “Their sponsors and Cadillac will put money into the sport, and all teams will ultimately benefit from that.”

According to Brown, the arrival of an American team fits with the growing popularity of Formula 1 in the United States, where three races are now held. “I’m not worried about short-term problems, like losing a few employees or sponsors,” he concluded optimistically. “The contribution they make to the whole will be much greater.” Cadillac completed the accession process in March, after initially encountering resistance from both the Formula 1 organization and established teams.
