Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon says he’s not worried about Ferrari’s engine falling behind the power units from rivals Mercedes and Red Bull. The two teams have been accused of exploiting a loophole to apply a ‘trick’ to the compression ratio of the 2026 engines. Cadillac, however, is a Ferrari customer team in 2026, and Lowdon is happy with that: ‘We have a completely legal engine.’

‘Completely legal engine’

Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon is not worried that the Ferrari power unit will trail the competition as a result. The eleventh team on the grid will take engines from the Italian stable through 2028. “What I have a lot of confidence in, and am pleased about, is that we have a completely legal engine,” Lowdon said, a pointed nod aimed at Mercedes and Red Bull. “With these engines, combustion must not occur at a compression ratio greater than 16:1. Without going into too much detail, we know that Ferrari has fully complied with the rules. That gives us a lot of confidence.”

Lowdon also has confidence in the performance of the new Ferrari power unit. The Scuderia recently let the engine be heard for the first time. “On performance, we work closely with our power-unit partner and support them fully. We are very happy with the relationship. I can’t really comment on the power units of others or how they interpreted the regulations. But for me it’s perfectly clear — it’s black and white,” Lowdon concluded.
