This summer, F1: The Movie finally hit the cinemas. The film, starring Hollywood legend Brad Pitt, quickly became one of the most successful motor racing films of all time. To make everything as realistic as possible, scenes were filmed during actual Formula 1 race weekends. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff even had a small role in the film, although the Austrian is far from satisfied with his contribution.
The final scenes were filmed during the Abu Dhabi GP last season. Wolff, who got involved in the project through Lewis Hamilton and the other producers, was given a cameo role, including dialogue. Without giving too much away – the Mercedes team boss has a brief conversation with Joshua Pearce, one of the fictional drivers from F1: The Movie, played by Damson Idris. Wolff opened up about his acting debut in a conversation with The Wall Street Journal.
“It was interesting to be part of the conversations with Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Joe Kosinski, and Jerry Bruckheimer,” said the Austrian. “At the end of the film, I also have a small scene. They say I did great, but I think they’re lying to me,” he joked.
“I find it cringe-worthy to watch the film back,” Wolff admitted. “It was in Abu Dhabi, right after the race. There was no hair and makeup, they just said, ‘Let’s do this now.’ I think they were annoyed with me because I had to do the scene at least five times,” he concluded with a laugh. “I wanted to do it well, but I don’t think I succeeded.”
