The new Formula 1 movie F1 will soon be hitting Dutch cinemas. Hollywood star Brad Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a fictional driver who returns to the pinnacle of motorsport after years of absence. For the film, the 61-year-old actor drove numerous test laps in modified Formula 2 cars. However, he is now rumored to have experienced a real Formula 1 car – reportedly, Brad Pitt tested with McLaren on Thursday.
Multiple sources report that Brad Pitt was a guest at a TPC test by McLaren at the Circuit of The Americas this week. On Wednesday, Lando Norris and reserve driver Alex Dunne are said to have driven a few test laps with the MCL60, the 2023 car. The movie star is believed to have climbed into the cockpit himself on Thursday. McLaren already shared a mysterious photo on social media; a racing suit with the initials BP – Brad Pitt, that is. The caption read, “It’s a Sonny day in Austin“, referring to Pitt’s character in F1.
In an interview with the Today Show Australia, Pitt previously expressed his admiration for Formula 1 drivers and the speeds at which they race. “These cars – it’s shocking what they can do,” he said. “I’ve been riding a motorcycle on a track for the past few decades, so to some extent, I knew what racing lines and braking points are. But that’s nothing compared to what these guys do. The fact that you can tear down a straight at nearly 300 km/h and then brake to 80 meters for a 90-degree turn is really impressive.” McLaren may release footage of Brad Pitt’s test at a later date.
