Valtteri Bottas expresses confidence in Lewis Hamilton‘s potential comeback, despite a challenging first season with Ferrari. With three Grands Prix remaining, the seven-time world champion reflects on a disappointing debut for the Scuderia. This year, Hamilton has yet to secure a podium finish for the Italians, marking a new low in his impressive record. However, Bottas, who spent five seasons alongside Hamilton at Mercedes, anticipates a turnaround.
“Joining a new team is always a significant change, especially for Hamilton,” Bottas told the press in São Paulo. “He has raced with Mercedes for so long that he has become accustomed to their way of working. He was truly the team’s driver,” the Finn recalled. “So this is a major shift: in terms of culture, equipment, language. I think everyone agrees that the adjustment is taking longer than expected, although he has occasionally shown his speed. I believe he will demonstrate what he still has to offer next year.”
Bottas also acknowledges the role of public opinion and the underestimation of Charles Leclerc, Hamilton’s new teammate. “There is a lot of talk about Lewis,” he explained. “That’s normal, but perhaps people underestimate how good Charles is. So yes, I think he’s doing well.”
Podium Crisis
Hamilton’s quest for his first podium with Ferrari remains a key focus. Since his second-place finish at the Las Vegas GP in 2024, he has not advanced beyond fourth place, with the exception of a single sprint victory in Shanghai. The British driver hopes to recover in the final trio of 2025. Throughout his Formula 1 career, the multiple champion has stood on the podium at least once per season.
The upcoming race weekend in Las Vegas may provide opportunities. Ferrari has consistently performed well in the gambling city in recent years; the red cars thrive on the street circuit. Moreover, Hamilton made an impressive comeback last year, securing second place after starting from P10.
