Sauber had a mixed weekend at Monza. Gabriel Bortoleto left the Autodromo Nazionale feeling satisfied after a solid performance, while Nico Hülkenberg is primarily looking forward to the next race in Baku. Nevertheless, there is optimism within the Swiss racing team: the upward trend of recent weeks was also visible on the fast Italian asphalt.
Bortoleto scored points again and appeared visibly pleased afterwards on F1TV: “I think this was the maximum achievable today. We even gained one position thanks to Kimi’s penalty,” the Brazilian said. “It feels like we are doing good work and achieving more and more good results. We work hard, have good leadership, a nice atmosphere within the team, and a good collaboration with Nico.”
For Hülkenberg, the weekend was less rosy. The German could not start the race due to a hydraulic problem. “It’s a huge disappointment,” he reacted shortly after the dropout. Yet he also sees bright spots: “I think the weekend as a whole was positive. We were competitive on these types of circuits. That gives hope for Baku, which is also a low-downforce track.” Despite the mixed feelings, Sauber seems on track for a solid second half of the season. The team continues to engage in the battle in the busy midfield.
