There’s no shortage of memorable moments in 75 years of F1. Some are tinged with tears, others with laughter, but all are forever etched in our collective memory. In this series, figures from Dutch motorsport share their favourite memories from the rich history of Formula 1. PART 3: Jeroen Bleekemolen.

Jeroen Bleekemolen experienced one of his top moments up close in Monaco. “When I think of memories, I immediately think of the duel between Ayrton Senna and Mansell in Monaco in 1992. I was standing by the track. That Williams was of course much better than Senna’s McLaren, but Mansell still had to make a pit stop. He re-entered the track behind Senna. I was rooting for Senna, so I was cheering on the sidelines. The fact that he kept Mansell behind him for all those laps was amazing. Overtaking in Monaco is difficult, but Senna defended brilliantly. And then the emotion after the race: I believe Mansell sat down on the asphalt in front of the podium. This duel was a memorable moment for me.”

Jeroen Bleekemolen shares a second memory. “Senna’s rain race, at the Donington circuit in 1993. It’s unbelievable what he did there with a car that wasn’t fast enough. I think he made five pit stops and lapped almost everyone.”
