Oliver Bearman has spoken out about the incident with Yuki Tsunoda during the United States Grand Prix. The Haas driver attempted to overtake the Red Bull driver at turn 15, but the move failed, causing Bearman to spin. After the race, the young Brit expressed his dissatisfaction with Tsunoda’s driving, which he described as ‘dangerous, desperate, and unpredictable’.

“I don’t think I moved during braking,” Bearman said afterwards. “It’s just a shame it turned out this way, especially since we were having a good battle. That’s racing, right? I had full control of the car, didn’t lock my wheels, and was literally next to him. I’m not his teammate, I’m fighting to get into the top 10 or higher, so yes, I was fine with that.” According to Bearman, Tsunoda made several dangerous maneuvers. “He moved to the left during braking. There was space when I went for the overtake, but suddenly it wasn’t there anymore as I got closer. He braked and he moved… that’s not how we race.”

Dangerous Driving by Tsunoda

The Brit explains that, in his opinion, Tsunoda had been driving unpredictably for some time: “He was swerving all over the place for a few laps. When I finally put my nose on the inside and made an overtaking attempt, he moved in response. That could have caused a big crash if I hadn’t swerved quickly.” Bearman also refers to the incident from the sprint race, where Tsunoda again acted too aggressively: “In the sprint, he charged into turn 1 and hit Liam Lawson in the sister car from behind. He did that again today in turn 1. So I think he might be driving a bit desperately, and you could see that in his defense.”

Finally, Bearman emphasizes that he doesn’t understand Tsunoda’s behavior: “I feel like he has this problem with other drivers too. Even when he was up against Charles Leclerc, who isn’t even in the same race as him – why would you defend against him? That just seems crazy.”
