Oliver Bearman has been given a 5-second time penalty and 1 penalty point on his super license following an incident with Liam Lawson during the sprint race of the São Paulo Grand Prix. The Brit pushed the Racing Bulls driver briefly onto the grass on the Reta Oposta straight, just before entering turn 4, where they subsequently made contact again.
The incident occurred in the run-up to turn 4, Descida do Lago. Bearman pushed Lawson onto the grass and then they both entered the corner together. The FIA ruled that Bearman “drove in a manner considered potentially dangerous on the straight between turns 3 and 4”. With this penalty, Bearman accumulates 9 out of the 12 allowed penalty points, bringing the Haas driver closer to a suspension. After the race, Bearman did not want to comment on the incident: “There’s no point in saying anything about that incident.”
