This season, Oliver Bearman is attempting to seize his opportunity in Formula 1 as a driver for Haas. The young Brit is doing this by leaving as little as possible to chance, as he explains in an interview. For instance, music plays a significant role in his race preparation.
– Every driver, whether in Formula 1 or other classes, has their specific preparation for driving. What routines or rituals do you have?
“For me, music is very important in the preparation for a session. It can be anything. But a specific ritual as in superstition? I try not to cling to that. I find it especially important to take my preparation very seriously, I am very thorough in that.”
“I watch a lot of onboard footage beforehand and after each session, I like to analyze the data extensively. You have to do your homework and be as well-prepared as possible. That is essential for me, it also gets me mentally in the right state before I get in the car. It’s a nice feeling when you know what you have to do. That gives me confidence on the track.”
Bearman continues: “Haas is a young and dynamic team. That means we are making strides together, the people in the team and I. As a junior, I was with Ferrari and that was very educational, but it was different from this role. The move to Haas has given me new and different opportunities to progress in Formula 1.”
