Smaller Tires, Lighter Cars

From 2026, Formula 1 cars will be equipped with slightly smaller tires. The goal of the new tires is to reduce the total weight of the cars. The front tires will be 25 millimeters narrower and 10 to 15 millimeters lower. The rear tires will undergo a reduction in width of 30 millimeters, while the height remains the same as that of the front tires. The rims will retain a diameter of 18 inches. Practical Test with Modified Aston Martin

Aston Martin deployed a modified version of their 2023 vehicle, also known as a ‘mule-car’, during the test in Barcelona. The vehicle has been specifically adapted to simulate the conditions of 2026 as accurately as possible. Given the significant changes in design and technology that the vehicles will undergo in 2026, it is crucial to conduct this test with a modified model.

Test driver Felipe Drugovich took the wheel in Barcelona, and the vehicle has already clocked more than 670 kilometers, equivalent to two full Grand Prix distances. This test is just the beginning. In the coming months, other teams will contribute by also driving with modified vehicles.
