Aston Martin has announced a significant change in the team’s leadership structure in preparation for the 2026 Formula 1 season. Legendary engineer Adrian Newey will assume the role of team principal from next year, while Andy Cowell will take on a new role as Chief Strategy Officer.
Andy Cowell, who has been both CEO and team principal for the past 14 months, is stepping down from operational leadership. In his new role, he will focus entirely on optimizing the technical collaboration with Honda, Aramco, and Valvoline. “Having implemented the structural changes as we transition to a full factory team and lay the groundwork for Adrian and the rest of the organization, this is a good time for me to take on a different role as Chief Strategy Officer. In this position, I will help optimize the technical collaboration between the team, Honda, Aramco, and Valvoline and ensure a smooth integration of the team’s new power unit, fuel, and chassis.”
Newey, who has been serving as Managing Technical Partner, will now take full responsibility for the technical team, including trackside operations. “Over the past nine months, I have seen so much talent within our team,” said Newey. “I am really looking forward to taking on this role and preparing the team as best as possible for 2026, a year in which we will see Aston Martin as a factory team and simultaneously face the significant challenge of the new regulations.”
