Aston Martin is reportedly setting its sights on Gianpiero Lambiase, the dedicated race engineer of Max Verstappen. After an emotional Lambiase was seen during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, rumors about his future at Red Bull are circulating the paddock. Aston Martin would like to bring the Brit on board for a leadership role within the team. If Lambiase indeed considers this, he can also look forward to a reunion with Adrian Newey.
It was a striking moment after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix: a visibly emotional Gianpiero Lambiase at the pit wall. Max Verstappen later explained why his dedicated race engineer shed a tear at the end of the race. “It was an emotional year,” the Dutchman told the press conference. “I don’t want to elaborate too much, but it was tough. At the same time, I’m very happy to be able to work with someone who is so passionate. Of course, he’s my race engineer, but I also see him as a friend. We’ve experienced so many emotional moments together and delivered fantastic performances.”
Aston Martin’s Future Plans
Immediately after the incident, rumors began to circulate about Lambiase’s future in the paddock. Multiple sources reported that the Brit’s role for the next season is not yet confirmed, and that Red Bull is considering what would be best for Lambiase due to his personal situation during the winter break. Now, there’s another rumor that Aston Martin is interested in collaborating with ‘GP’, as Lambiase is also known in Formula 1.
The British racing team would reportedly like to offer the race engineer a leadership role within the Formula 1 team, according to F1 Chronicle. Lambiase’s potential new role fits into Aston Martin’s ongoing restructuring plans. If the Brit indeed makes the switch to the racing team, he would be reunited with Adrian Newey. The former Red Bull top designer is the new team boss of Aston Martin, and previously worked with Lambiase at the Austrian racing team.
