Aston Martin may be on the verge of dismissing CEO and team boss Andy Cowell, according to multiple sources in the paddock. The top engineer was brought to Silverstone in October 2024, after previously leading the engine division of Mercedes. However, his arrival did not yield the desired results. On the contrary, Aston Martin, which in recent years aimed for a permanent spot among the top teams, seems to have lost ground in recent months.

Hungarian Formula.hu reported on Sunday that Cowell, after just over a year, is set to leave immediately after the Las Vegas Grand Prix. His position has reportedly become untenable due to disappointing results in recent months. Aston Martin fell back to seventh place in the constructors’ championship this year, despite team owner Lawrence Stroll‘s outspoken title ambitions. Stroll invested heavily in a state-of-the-art factory in Silverstone and hired several highly regarded technicians, but the anticipated progress is yet to materialize.

A spokesperson for Aston Martin denied rumors of Cowell’s impending departure. “The team will not engage in rumors or speculation,” was the statement.

Potential Replacements

Cowell was officially appointed CEO and team boss in October 2024 following an internal reorganization. He took over from Mike Krack, who assumed the role of Chief Trackside Officer in 2025. However, his days now appear to be numbered.

Rumors suggest that Aston Martin has former McLaren and Sauber team boss Andreas Seidl in mind as a possible successor. Seidl left the papayas for the Swiss racing team at the beginning of 2023 and guided them through the transition to Audi, but was replaced by Mattia Binotto in mid-2024. The latter, along with Martin Whitmarsh, is also considered a potential candidate to succeed Andy Cowell.
