There is unrest behind the scenes at Aston Martin. CEO and team boss Andy Cowell is reportedly on the brink of dismissal after just over a year; following the disappointing results of the past season and the departure of several top technicians, the Brit is expected to pack his bags soon. Aston Martin is said to have several replacements in mind, including former Red Bull team boss Christian Horner.
Although no final decision has been made, it appears that Andy Cowell will lose his role as CEO and team boss. The Hungarian Formula.hu reported on Sunday that he will be fired in the aftermath of the Las Vegas GP. A position elsewhere within the organization is not ruled out, but his time at the top seems to be over. A spokesperson for Aston Martin is keeping their cards close to their chest for now: “The team will not engage in rumors or speculation. The focus is on maximizing performance in the remaining races and preparing for 2026.”
In the search for a potential successor, big names are emerging. According to BBC Sport, Christian Horner is actively positioning himself for a role at Aston Martin, potentially including a stake in the company. He was dismissed by Red Bull in July following disappointing sporting results and months of internal tension surrounding allegations of inappropriate behavior. Although Horner was acquitted, his position became untenable.
Red Bull Reunion
If Horner indeed takes up a position at Aston Martin, it could lead to a remarkable Red Bull reunion. Top designer Adrian Newey, who filled the trophy cabinet in Milton Keynes for many years, already switched to the Silverstone competitor this year. The celebrated Brit has been working on the Aston Martin car for 2026 for several months. The question is whether Newey – who enjoys a lot of respect within the team – is open to a new collaboration with Horner. The relationship between the two cooled in their last months at Red Bull, although they are said to have grown closer again. For instance, they attended a concert together this summer.
In addition to Horner, Andreas Seidl, Mattia Binotto, and Martin Whitmarsh are also mentioned as potential new team bosses of Aston Martin. A departure of Andy Cowell would make him the fourth top executive to leave under team owner Lawrence Stroll. In addition, seven senior designers recently resigned. According to insiders, the team is in the midst of a major reorganization.
