Aston Martin has denied rumors that it is attempting to lure Max Verstappen with a 1.2 billion euro contract to the British racing stable. On Thursday, multiple sources reported that the British team had allegedly already informed potential sponsors that the Dutchman would be moving to Silverstone. Aston Martin now refutes these rumors.
Rumors of a possible transfer of Max Verstappen to Aston Martin have circulated in the past, but gained new momentum on Thursday. The British newspaper, The Daily Mail, reported that Jefferson Slack, Commercial Director at Aston Martin, had told various potential sponsors that Verstappen would be joining the British team. A spokesperson for Aston Martin now denies these rumors.
Highest Paid Athlete Ever
According to Aston Martin itself, there is no truth to these rumors. The astronomical figure of 1.2 billion euros that was mentioned also reportedly does not hold up. Verstappen currently earns around 59 million euros per year at Red Bull. Only the salary of Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, around 53 million euros, comes close to this. The mentioned amount of 1.2 billion euros would have meant a salary of around 200 million euros per year for Verstappen.
Even with this enormous salary, the Dutchman would not have come close to the highest paid athlete in the world. That record is held by footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, who earned around 250 million euros in 2024.
