Arvid Lindblad Earns F1 Super License with Red Bull

Red Bull’s young talent, Arvid Lindblad, was awarded his super license earlier this month. The British-Swedish driver is technically too young to compete in Formula 1, but due to his ‘excellent skills’, he has been granted early entry into the premier class. Red Bull has not yet announced any specific plans, but reportedly, he will soon be given a private test in an older car, allowing him to participate in several free practice sessions this year.

Arvid Lindblad, currently competing in Formula 2 with Campos Racing, is preparing for his Formula 1 debut. The 17-year-old driver is regularly featured in Red Bull’s promotional material, but has never driven in an official session. Thanks to a special arrangement by the FIA, he now holds a super license, which allows him to participate in free practice sessions or, if necessary, even fill in as a substitute.

Making Tracks

He made his very first laps in a Formula 1 car in the AT04, the AlphaTauri car from 2023, for a Red Bull promotional video at the Imola circuit. It wasn’t without challenges – Lindblad went off the track twice. Reportedly, he will soon get a second chance. The Italian branch of Motorsport reports that he will have a private test with Red Bull at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, as the circuit is officially known, on Monday, June 23. The Austrian team is said to be preparing him for several free practice sessions in the second half of the season – likely with sister team Racing Bulls, although it’s not ruled out that Red Bull itself may entrust him with a practice session.

Arvid Lindblad made his debut in open-wheel racing with Van Amersfoort Racing in 2022. In the Italian Formula 4 Championship, he achieved several podium finishes and one victory. A year later, he finished third with PREMA and was runner-up in the German Formula 4. In 2024, he had a season in Formula 3, again with PREMA, where he immediately achieved strong results, including a victory in Bahrain. This year, he is making waves in Formula 2 with Campos Racing. He has been part of the Red Bull training program since 2021.
