Anthony Hamilton, father of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, is set to collaborate more closely with FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem. The Briton will take on an official role within the organization, contributing to initiatives for young drivers. Over the past year and a half, Hamilton Sr. has already been an advisory force within the FIA, but his new position will be made official in June.

During the upcoming FIA conference in Macau, from June 10 to 13, the organization will launch the Young Driver Development Pathway. Anthony Hamilton will play a significant role in this new project. According to The Times, Hamilton has impressed Mohammed Ben Sulayem over the past few months, who, with this initiative, aims to facilitate the transition from amateur level to a professional career for young drivers.

Involvement

During the season opener in Australia, the world could already see Anthony Hamilton’s commitment to the younger generation. Rookie Isack Hadjar was visibly emotional after crashing in the formation round, but Hamilton Sr. was the first to offer him support. The Briton later received much praise for his actions. The FIA’s decision to offer him an official role is said to have no impact on the tensions with Lewis Hamilton. The Ferrari driver has frequently criticized the organization, and its president in particular, in recent months.

One of the pain points for Hamilton Jr., along with many other drivers, are the strict rules regarding foul language. Mohammed Ben Sulayem wants to crack down hard on drivers who swear, although the initial penalty was relaxed in the run-up to the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. This may have something to do with the FIA elections later this year – Sulayem wants to make another bid for the presidency. He may have to compete against another ‘father of’. Not Anthony Hamilton, but Carlos Sainz Jr is seriously considering running for office.
