Alpine has officially parted ways with Jack Doohan. Eight months after losing his race seat, the French outfit announced the two parties have split. The team said on Tuesday a “mutual agreement” had been reached, with Doohan — who had been serving as test and reserve driver — no longer continuing in that role. The move gives the Australian the opportunity to “pursue other career opportunities.”
Jack Doohan endured a rocky start to his Formula 1 career. After debuting in the 2024 season finale in Abu Dhabi, he was handed six races in 2025 to prove himself. He already felt the hot breath of Franco Colapinto on his neck; the Argentine was loaned by Williams to Alpine. Ultimately Doohan scored zero World Championship points and was replaced after Imola. The 22‑year‑old Australian showed flashes of genuine pace, but also produced several costly crashes.
Super Formula beckons
After his final race weekend in Miami, Doohan — the first member of the Alpine Academy to step up to Formula 1 — took on a reserve role. He turned up at races from time to time as a back-up for Pierre Gasly and Colapinto, but a long-term future at Alpine increasingly looked unlikely. On Tuesday the split was made official. “The team wishes to thank Jack for his dedication and professionalism over the past four years, both on and off track, and wishes him all the best for the future,” Alpine wrote on social media.
For Doohan a new chapter now beckons. He is expected to race in the Japanese Super Formula championship, possibly paired with a test and reserve role in Formula 1. That lines up with talks he and his representatives already held with multiple teams at the end of 2025. A seat at the Kondo team, with which he took part in the Super Formula rookie test at Suzuka late last year, looks most likely, although that first introduction wasn’t seamless. Doohan attracted attention then with a series of crashes through the same Degner corner complex.
