Fernando Alonso reflects positively on his initial experience with Aston Martin’s 2025 car. The Spaniard notes that the AMR25 is a significant improvement over its predecessor, though it remains to be seen how much progress the British racing team has made compared to other teams.
Aston Martin had a dream start in 2023, with a series of podium finishes from their driver Fernando Alonso. Unfortunately for the British team, they couldn’t maintain this form and have since struggled to compete with the top teams. Aston Martin hopes to change this soon, and the arrival of Adrian Newey is a step in the right direction.
A Step Forward
Newey, however, was not allowed to start until March 3, 2025, but it seems that even without the master designer, Aston Martin has already made progress. “It’s hard to say with absolute certainty, but the car is definitely a step forward compared to the 2024 car,” the Spaniard tells Formula1.com.
Alonso not only sees how the 2025 model is faster than its predecessor, but also better correlates and has more downforce. “Of course, it’s a relative gain, as everyone is improving.”
When asked about his first impression of a possible hierarchy among the teams, Alonso honestly admits that he did not keep an eye on the other teams during the test days. “I think the top four teams will continue to have an advantage, especially at the beginning of the year. Let’s hope we can get closer to them.”
