Fernando Alonso is set to miss the first free practice in Hungary, as announced by Aston Martin on Friday. The Spaniard is suffering from a muscle injury in his back, a problem that has been plaguing him since the Belgian Grand Prix. Reserve driver Felipe Drugovich will step in for the two-time world champion.
It is not yet known whether Fernando Alonso will only miss the first hour of practice, or if he will also have to skip further sessions during the Grand Prix weekend in Hungary. The Aston Martin team has stated that they will make this information available as soon as possible. Alonso is currently undergoing treatment for his injury. In the meantime, the Spaniard will be replaced by Felipe Drugovich.
The Brazilian has been a reserve driver for Aston Martin since the end of 2022, and earlier this year, he was allowed to drive the first free practice for the Bahrain Grand Prix. Drugovich has already driven more than a thousand kilometers in a Formula 1 car during his time as a reserve driver, but he has never raced. Whether this will change this weekend remains to be seen.
