Fernando Alonso has expressed that he would warmly welcome Max Verstappen to Aston Martin should the four-time world champion seek a new adventure in the near future. The Spanish veteran would be more than happy to pass on his seat to Verstappen, but not until 2026.

Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen, both world champions, have a good rapport. The Spaniard has boundless admiration for the driving skills of his Dutch colleague. “He is the best of them all,” asserts Alonso. Naturally, a team with ambition, such as billionaire Lawrence Stroll’s Aston Martin, would want to entice such a driver if possible.

As rumors of Verstappen’s early departure from Red Bull dominate the Formula 1 scene, with Jeddah being no exception, the Dutchman is consistently linked to Aston Martin. This is also due to the arrival of designer Adrian Newey and engine manufacturer Honda, with whom Verstappen achieved his greatest successes at Red Bull.

“Those rumors about Max are good for our team,” Alonso believes. According to him, it shows that his employer is considered a serious contender, especially with the new regulations coming into effect in 2026. “I have a long-term contract and will remain connected to Aston Martin in some role,” the Spaniard states. “Next year, at least, as a driver, because I want to experience how the new cars feel and continue working on our ambitious project.”

After 2026, all options are open, admits Alonso, who is nearing 44. Should Verstappen want to join in the future, he would gladly make way. “I will always be able to help the team, in whatever role. But if I’m not fast enough anymore or they can contract another driver, I’ll be the first to raise my hand.”
